Working Jack Russell Terriers

about us

My Name is Christopher Rizzo.  I am a Licensed Veterinary Technician with technician specialities in both Equine Veterinary Nursing, and Large Animal Internal Medicine.  I have been working in the animal industry since I was 16 years old.  I have been breeding and showing Jack Russell Terriers since 2008.  I started my animal showing career when I was 18 years old.  I adopted a 3 year old Thoroughbred filly off the race track.  After rehabilitating her for 6 months, I hopped on and away we went.  I began showing her in hunters and we moved on from there.  I then changed gears and acquired my first American Quarter Horse.  I showed the Palomino Circuit for more than 5 years.  I moved to Unionville, Pennsylvania with my girlfriend at the time and we rented a 40 acre horse farm.  We eventually got married and started having children.  (Our first two are only 11 months apart!) Yikes!  We decided it was time to "trade the horses in" and focus on the kids.

Of course I would be remiss if I didn't mention my beautiful wife Danielle, without whom none of this would be possible.  She helps me immensely behind the scenes. She helps take care of the dogs, socialize the puppies, and cares for the dogs when I am away at shows all while juggling our three kids and farm work.  I truly cant thank her enough.

We began our breeding program in 2008 with the prettiest little bitch I have ever seen, Ocean State Clover.  From the first time I met her as a puppy I was in love with her.  I was given the opportunity to own this amazing girl by Lisa Benoit of Ocean State Jack Russell Terriers and we are forever in her debt.  The rest is history... We started showing the dogs and we were hooked.

We currently have a small group of dogs.  Right now we are working on our foundation stock to help us provide the building blocks for our future breeding terriers.  We carefully select breeding dogs for temperment, correctness, and working ability.  Our breeding stock is DNA tested for Primary Lens Luxation, (PLL), Spinocerebellar Ataxia, (SCA), and Degenerative Myelopathy (DM). They are also evaluated annually by a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist for the Canine Eye Registration Foundation, (CERF), and each has been tested and is normal for Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER).  That sounds like a lot of big words and tests but they are extremely important to us and to the future of the breed. These are important tests to ask of any breeder.  All of our tested terriers have been added to the Jack Russell Terrier Health Registry.

Thanks for stopping by and feel free to send us a message with any questions.  We like to keep close contact with the people who we pair our dogs with and love seeing them at trials, on Facebook and sometimes at work!  We understand that lives and situations change and that is why it is important to us that if at ANY point in one of our dog's lives the owner can no longer care for them we will ALWAYS take them back.  We take the role of breeders VERY seriously and feel that we are responsible for our puppies for the entirety of their lives.
